Information on our fingerprinting technology: Livescan
There is only a 2% chance of rejection using electronic fingerprinting hardware such as livescan versus a 30% rejection rate using paper & ink. The turnaround time for a livescan fingerprint is 3 business days versus 3 weeks for paper & ink fingerprints. You can clearly see why you should use us as your fingerprinters in Maryland.
What is livescan fingerprinting?
This is also called electronic, or inkless, fingerprinting. In traditional fingerprinting, ink is rolled onto a flat plate, the fingers are rolled in the ink and then rolled out on paper, resulting in a transfer of ink that recreates the pattern of a person’s fingerprints for processing and identification. With livescan, the person’s fingers are rolled without the use of ink or other medium directly onto an electronic capture platen, eliminating the ink, paper, and traditional physical tools. |

Additionally the Department of Justice will coordinate other processing resulting from the automated submission of fingerprints, including forwarding the fingerprints to the FBI (if required).
What are the benefits of livescan?
Instead of taking physical ink-and-paper fingerprints, waiting for the mail to deliver them to the Department of Justice, and waiting additional time for them to be processed and the results mailed back, now these prints can be directly transmitted via secure online medium to the Department of Justice, resulting in a shorter wait and complete elimination of the hassle of mailing physical cards. Now the entire process, from taking the fingerprints to the results, can be accomplished in as little as 72 hours, or 30 days if the applicant has a criminal record; with traditional print cards, it can take anywhere from 10 days to 60 days.
Also, with this new electronic capture procedure, mistakes that result in incorrect or rejected prints (like over- and under-inking, smudging, smearing) can also be mostly eliminated; the machine points out unusable prints while the applicant is there. The mistake can be immediately corrected without the need for a return visit.

How does the process work?
A trained technician will scan your fingerprints using an Identix TouchPrint 600™ livescan. The electronic fingerprinting takes five to ten minutes and your prints are immediately available for electronic transmission to the appropriate FBI-certified channeling agencies for background processing.
